what was that!

woooooooooooooooow. wow! just wow!

lorde released her first single since solar power and it’s bringing back all the melodrama feels. i love the heaviness of this song. i cannot wait to hear the rest of the album & i’m sure she’s about to surprise us all.

this post really isn’t going to be all about lorde, even though i could go on and on. there’s just something really exciting happening in the music world lately. at least the little corner i’m tapped into.

lorde releasing what was that, randomly on a thursday, and showing up to perform in washington square park — what. was. that. literally.

i have never had so much fomo in my life.

in case you missed it, lorde posted on her story that she was going to be at the park at 7pm. all the lorde fans in nyc circled around, waiting for her. the cops “shut it down” and it turned into a full-on lorde singalong in the park. something about a bunch of people singing “ribs” and “supercut” together just felt… huge.

normally a concert is where you feel that intense connection with other fans — but on a random thursday afternoon, i was dreaming about standing in a park in nyc, screaming “in my head, i do everything right” with a bunch of strangers. lorde accidentally created this space for people to find each other, to feel that connection we don’t always get to have.

eventually she came out and debuted her new song, standing on top of a wooden box. icon behavior!

music just feels unexpected lately. it’s breaking out of the usual album release cycle.

i’m still seeing a lot of musicians doing promo, but it’s different — like showing up on podcasts that feel way more human than just doing radio shows. i saw noah kahan and ed sheeran playing in a bar in nashville the other day, just sitting around a table with fans. charli xcx’s “end of the brat era” has everyone guessing what’s next — honestly, i don’t even think she knows. it’s real, it’s chaotic, it’s authentic, and i want more of it.

it’s just so refreshing to see artists doing the unexpected & to think they feel safe enough to do it. we have to keep making these safe spaces for fans and artists to come together. that’s where the magic happens.
